Choice Enrollment Stopped at Washington and Sunnyslope Elementary Schools Due to Overcrowding

Choice students will no longer be accepted at Washington and Sunnyslope Elementary schools due to overcrowding at each school.

Choice students at Washington grades 2, 3, and 5 and at Sunnyslope grades 3 and 4 may have their Choice revoked, even students who are attending those schools through the Choice program this year.

These closures are in effect for the 2016/2017 school year.

“We have looked at all of the options available to us the best short term and long term option is to exercise our school board policy to deny Choice at the schools who have significant overcrowding at certain grade levels,” Superintendent Brian Flones told the school board at the April 26 board meeting.

The first Choice students who will be revoked are those from outside of the Wenatchee School District. The second tier will be determined by dates of enrollment for Choice in that school.

Choice is a program that manages students who wish to transfer from one school to another within our District or from outside the District.  Parents may request to be placed on a waiting list for Sunnyslope or Washington, or they can complete a Choice application for another elementary school in which there is space available.
