A Letter from Superintendent Brian Flones on Immigration and Refugee Support

Español

Dear Wenatchee School District Students, Families, Staff, and Community,

I am writing today in response to the current events in our nation surrounding the recent policy and executive orders restricting immigration from Mexico and temporarily stopping immigration from several Middle East countries that are causing fear and uncertainty amongst our Latino families. Our district serves many immigrant and refugee students and families and they are an important part of the rich diversity within our schools and community.

I want you to know that our school district is committed to supporting every student and providing them their legal right to a free public K-12 education, regardless of th eir immigration status, their citizenship, nation of origin, religion, or any other legally protected status. Our school district, under the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), does not ask for nor track a student's citizenship or immigration status or disclose this information to outside entities.

Our schools will be a safe place for all students to learn and thrive in a setting that does not tolerate any form of discrimination, intimidation, bullying or harassment. We want our students and families to feel safe around the immigration and deportation issues and we are committed to providing assistance and information as needed.

Our daily promise is to put People First, and every interaction promotes person al connections with our students, families, staff, and community. There is no better time than now to live out this promise.

          Brian Flones,

Superintendent

Atentamente,

Brian Flones

Superintendente
