A Letter from Wenatchee High School Principal Eric Anderson on "Walk Out" Assembly

March 13, 2018

Dear High School Students and Families,

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 14th, our students have planned a “Walk Out” assembly that we will be held at approximately 10:00 am. The students will be meeting on our track and our ASB students will be leading a “Discussion for Change.” That portion of the day will be on campus and is a school sponsored event.

ASB students will be honoring the lives lost in Parkland, Florida and will be informing students as to how they can access their locally elected officials.

Some students are then planning to leave campus to attend a rally at Memorial Park. The rally at Memorial Park is not a school sponsored event. Other students will return to class, while others may choose not to participate in either event.

That said, we want to ensure that ALL students feel safe and respected no matter what they choose to do. School and classes will be operating on an assembly schedule (see below). Some parents may decide to excuse students from school to participate in the off-campus event. Students who leave campus without parent permission will be marked unexcused.

We encourage you to talk with your child about the event at Memorial Park and their participation. If your child plans to attend the event at Memorial Park, please discuss how they will be getting there (and if necessary, what transportation they will be using).

Our priority is to keep all of our students safe and, when students get into cars or walk off campus, it is more challenging to look out for their well-being. Since the school shooting last month, many student-led events are being planned across the state and country and may occur in the coming weeks and months. We will continue to keep you posted on any other local events that may impact the school day. Please feel free to reach out to any of us if you have any questions.

Sincerely, Eric Anderson
Principal Wenatchee High School
