Orchard Middle School

Title 1A

PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY

What is it all about?

A major goal of the Title 1A program is to encourage greater involvement of parents in the education of their children in partnership with their school.

How will I know if my child is receiving Title 1 services?

Parents of children selected for participation in Title 1A program will be informed by letter in the fall.  All parents will be provided information about the program at the October conferences.

What do I need to do?

Each parent will be asked to sign a jointly developed school-parent compact that outlines how the parents, teachers, principal and students will share responsibility for improved student achievement.

How will I know how my child is doing?

Parents will be informed of their child’s progress at conferences, with report cards and phone calls as needed.  Parents may also log into Illuminate at any time to see current grades. Parents may also request individual conferences.

How can I get help in working with my child?

Information to help parents work with their children to improve academic achievement is provided throughout the year in the newsletter and web postings.  Parents can get specific information in conferences with classroom teacher, talking with the family advocate and attending parent/family activities held through the school year.

How else can I be involved?

Parents are invited and encouraged to attend PTO meetings, volunteer in their child’s classrooms and on field trips, attend school/family events and provide input on district/school surveys.

Anything else?

Whenever possible, communication with families of participating children will be given in the language used in the home. Most all information is available in English and Spanish.
This Parent Involvement Policy will be posted on our school website.  Print copies are also available.
