NEW DATE for Back to School Health Fair: Saturday August 15, 2015, 9 a.m - noon.

The Back to School Health Fair will be Saturday, August 15 from 9am – 12pm at the Columbia Valley Health Wenatchee location at 600 Orondo Street. The date provided for our August Back to School Newsletter was changed after we went to press.

Columbia Valley Community Health (CVCH) will provide age-appropriate backpacks to school-aged children in the parking lot of its Wenatchee clinic, located at 600 Orondo Ave. Once they receive their backpack, children and their families may head across the street to the playground of Columbia Elementary for games, art activities, educational experiences and free family fun!

Over a dozen community organizations are expected to attend, providing educational information about their services and other health-related information. Families can also learn more about Columbia Valley Girls on the Run, the United Way of Chelan & Douglas Counties Youth United program, and the kid-centric programs at CVCH. Kids can play games, enjoy arts and crafts and even visit with Walt from the Wenatchee Wild.

CVCH medical staff will be available to provide “back to school” immunizations and sports physicals in its Wenatchee Express Care Clinic*. Children may become current with their immunizations without an appointment, but individuals interested in receiving a sports physical during the health fair are encouraged to make an appointment in advance by calling 509.662.6000.

“With a huge grassy area at our disposal, we’re excited to put the “health” back into this event”, says Marlen Mendez, CVCH clinic manager. “Instead of having more than two dozen booths with information for families, we’re going to focus on games that will get kids moving and active. We’re including a few water games to help kids beat the heat or cool down after completing the fun obstacle course. There will be something for everyone.”

There is no cost to attend this community event. Children entering grades K – 12 must be present to receive a free backpack.  For more information about the Back to School Health Fair, contact Marlen Mendez at 509.661.3623. *CVCH will bill insurance if available and fees may apply to physicals and immunizations
