Parking Lot Information

September 12, 2016

Dear Washington Elementary Families:

This letter comes to you as a prelude to the opening of our new parking lot.  Beginning Wednesday, September 14th cars will be allowed to enter the parking lot for parking, pick-up and drop-off.

As many of you are aware, dropping off and picking up can be an interesting and sometimes frustrating endeavor.  It is my hope that the directions provided with this letter will be of assistance.  This is a completely new process from past experiences at Washington.

There is one entry into the parking lot, which is located at the north end of the lot closest to the school from Elliott Street.  The parking lot is one way (counter clockwise) around the perimeter.  There is one exit located on the south end of the lot closest to the Special Education offices.  At the exit, cars will be allowed to turn either north or south on Elliott Street.

It would be a good practice for north bound traffic on Elliott to avoid turning left into the parking lot – this will cause a major back-up.  It is more advisable for southbound traffic on Elliott Street to enter the parking lot.

Drop-Off

It is not required for students to be dropped off in the parking lot.  In fact, it might be best for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to be dropped-off on Washington Street as their entry into school is located on the north side of the building.

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students may benefit from being dropped-off around the perimeter of the parking lot since they enter from the doors closest to the front of the building.

If you choose to enter the parking lot for drop-off there is a single lane for this purpose around the perimeter of the lot.  Please do not double park and force your child to walk between cars to get to the sidewalk.

I ask that cars pull as far forward as possible for drop-off.

Parking is not allowed in the drop-off, pick-up area.  We have plenty of parking spaces in the lot for this purpose.

Pick-up

It is not required for parents to pick-up their child in the parking lot.  Again, it may be of greater benefit to pick-up on the side of the building where your child will exit.

Drivers may wait for their child in the car at the end of the day in the pick-up lane provided the driver does not leave their car unattended.

Please yield to cars already in motion and wait for a clearing before you pullout into traffic.

Disabled Parking

There is designated disabled parking that requires a permit to occupy.  This will be monitored regularly.

Map

Please see the map below.

If we all plan ahead so we are not rushed and use our common sense this will be a great success for everyone but most importantly, safe for our students.

In partnership,

Keith Collins, Principal
