Shawn Woodward will be interviewing for the position of superintendent on February 20th. Woodward is the second of three finalists selected by the Wenatchee School Board of Directors to interview.
Woodward has been superintendent of the Lake Pend Oreille School District since July 1, 2012. Prior to becoming superintendent, he was assistant superintendent of the North Kitsap School District, in Poulsbo, Washington. Woodward began his career as an elementary teacher in Port Orchard, Washington. Over the course of seven years as a teacher, he taught at both the elementary and junior high levels. In 1999, he became a principal in the Burlington-Edison School District, in Burlington, Washington. He was a principal in two different K-8 schools over a nine-year period.
Woodward holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University; a Master of Education degree from City University; principal certification from Seattle Pacific University; and superintendent certification from Western Washington University, where he also taught a leadership class for prospective school principals.
Under Woodward’s collaborative leadership style the Lake Pend Oreille School District has thrived over the last 7 years. The school district has been recognized at the state and national level for student growth and achievement, as well as increasing equity and access to advanced placement courses for traditionally underrepresented students. The school district is also well known for creating innovative choice options for families. They were the first district in the state of Idaho to develop a Homeschool Academy and one of the first to develop a mastery-based learning high school with an emphasis on experiential education.
Woodward is married, with three children, all of whom will be attending college next fall. In their spare time, the Woodward family loves to hike, run, ski and play in the mountains surrounding northern Idaho.
The public is invited to meet Shawn Woodward during a community forum February 20th from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Wenatchee High School, 1101 Millerdale Ave.
Candidates’ interviews with the school board will occur during special meetings on each of the interview days. The special meetings will commence at 6:30 p.m. dinner at the Springhill Suites 1730 N Wenatchee Ave. No formal action will take place.
