After School Program

21st Century Learning Centers

Welcome to the Dog Yard!

WHAT IS THE Dog Yard?

Orchard Middle School’s after school activities program is a place for Orchard students to have a structured and safe place to hang out after school. Orchard provides a free meal, fun, healthy, safe activities and field trips, an Academic Support Center to get homework help, or attend enrichment and after school academic classes.

What is the Schedule?

Monday - Friday 2:45 - 5:15 PM

What happens at the After School Program?

  1. ENRICHMENT CLASSES/CLUBS/FIELD TRIPS:  Students can choose a fun and interesting class, club, or field trip to attend. Some examples of these might be: guitar lessons, movie making, seasonal gift making, dance, cooking, art class, crafts, chess, self defense, babysitting classes, gardening and environmental science, mock stock market investments, fantasy sports, mariachi, and field trip visits to WVC, CWU, WSU, Humane Society, and many others.

  2. Bulldog Support Center: Students sign-in at the library to do their homework, study for tests, participate in academic competitions, make up assignments, use the computers for schoolwork and/or get help from high school and college-age tutors.

  3. SWEAT Class:  A daily workout class that can vary from Zumba dance, age appropriate workout class, or even sport clinics!

  4. AFTER SCHOOL ACADEMIC CLASSES: May be offered by certified teachers.

Who can attend?

ALL Orchard Middle School students who have turned in the Parent Permission Form.

How much does all this cost?

NOTHING!

This program is funded through the Wenatchee School District and 21st Century Community Learning Centers federal grant.

What are the rules?

The rules are the same as school day rules. Students will not interfere with the learning, safety, or well being of others. Students choosing to violate school rules will be subject to PBIS procedures, and if needed, we will call home for early dismissal and/or refer student to school administration. Students participating in this program are subject to school discipline, which could include suspension from school or removal from the program as determined by the building administration.

Will there be transportation home?

YES!

A bus will leave Orchard at the end of the program, Monday-Friday. The bus route is a modified route designed to meet the needs of participants.

Can students come and go as they please?

All students participating in the After School Program must check in at the cafeteria by 3:00 (exceptions with prior arrangements). Students must stay until 5:00 PM unless his/her parent gives their student permission by marking “yes” on the permission form.  By marking yes, parents are permitting their child to leave before 5:00.  If a student chooses to leave the program early, he/she may NOT return or ride the school bus home.
