“The Role of the Parent in Sports”

You are invited to check out the National Federation of High Schools web site to look at the FREE on-line course entitled “The Role of the Parent in Sports” at www.nfhslearn.com. This 30 minute course will give you more information and perspective of the parent’s role in school athletics. It also included insight on your student’s perspective of your role and useful information on dealing with the “bumps in the road” in athletics.

There are other FREE courses dealing with athletic issues at the site. Check out these:

  • “Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know”.
  • “Sportsmanship”

“Sport Parent Survival Guide”

Also available is the “SportParent Survival Guide” supplied by the American Sport Education Program. This guide covers many issues parents face during their child’s athletic participation. Topics include: Your Responsibilities as a Parent, Modeling Sportsmanship, Helping Your Child Enjoy Sports, a Checklist for Success, and What Makes a Good Coach. You can download this 13 page guide here: Sport Parent Surv Guide.pdf

“Through a Child’s Eyes”

Also available is the “Through a Child’s Eyes....  A Parent’s Guide to Improving Youth Sports” supplied by the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance. This guide covers many issues parents face in youth sports as seen through their child’s eyes.  Advice for parents to build your child’s confidence, promote sportsmanship and fun, knowing your role, specialization, and how to improve your child’s sports experience. This is a must read with information from 3 youth sports experts. You can download this 14 page guide here: CTSA_ ParentsGuide.pdf.
