School board

The Wenatchee School District Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Julie Norton and Maria Iñiguez to fill board positions 2 and 5.

Norton has been a civil practice attorney with Ogden Murphy Wallace for fourteen years and has two children in the District. Norton has served on various youth-focused non-profit boards including the Wenatchee Valley (Youth) Sports Foundation and Apple Valley Red Cross. Norton is also a member of the 2012 Wenatchee World’s “30 Under 35” cohort.

Iñiguez is currently the executive secretary for Wenatchee Valley College President Jim Richardson and worked in various roles for the District for 12 years, ranging from district relocation coordinator to state and federal program specialist. Iñiguez is married to Wenatchee High School Associate Principal Ricardo Iñiguez and has one child in the dual-language program at Lewis & Clark Elementary.

Fourteen applications were received by the district and seven applicants were invited to interview for the positions vacated by Sarah Knox and Tim Larson during a special board meeting Thursday,  January 10.

“We had a very qualified pool of candidates and to narrow that down was difficult,” said Board President, Laura Jaecks. “ In the end, I believe the Board chose two individuals who are going to do us great service on the Board and I look forward to working with both of them.”

Norton and Iñiguez will be sworn into office during the regular board meeting on Tuesday, January 14th at 6:00 p.m. by Chelan County Superior Court Judge Lesley A. Allan.
