School Closure Procedure During Remote and Hybrid Learning

When school is closed, all students will learn online

With winter weather upon us, the Wenatchee School District wants parents and the community to be prepared for changes in student learning during school closures during periods of inclement weather.

The District will NO longer have 2-hour delays in the event of inclement weather, instead, we will close our schools for in-person instruction and have our students joining us online to continue their learning. This means:

ALL school buildings will be closed for in-person instruction for ALL students.

  • ALL students will learn online during their regular school start and end times.
  • Students will log in to Zoom at their regular cohort start times (AM or PM) and into Canvas for online learning during the other half of the day.
  • Students attending either the hybrid AM or PM sessions will learn fully online.
  • Any onsite events that have been scheduled at school will be canceled.
  • Preschool attend online
  • YMCA Childcare will be provided. Parents will be contacted by the YMCA with specific details.
  • Grab and go meals will be available at all elementary school sites and WHS from 11 am-1 pm

What type of weather will force buildings to be closed?

School buildings may be closed for inclement weather (snow, freezing rain, drifting snow, below zero temperatures, etc.) when it is dangerous to put buses on the road. The District will also close buildings when temperatures drop below -15. Students and parents are asked to be prepared to transition between hybrid and online learning during the winter months.

Closures on Late Start Monday
In the event of an inclement weather closure on a late start Monday, ALL students will learn online. This means;

  • ALL school buildings will be closed for in-person instruction for ALL students.
  • ALL students will learn online following the late start schedule.
  • Students will log in to Zoom at their regular cohort start times (AM or PM) and into Canvas for online learning during the other half of the day.
  • Students attending either the hybrid AM or PM sessions will learn fully online.
  • Any onsite events that have been scheduled at school will be canceled.
  • Preschool will attend online
  • YMCA Childcare will be provided. Parents will be contacted by the YMCA with specific details.
  • Grab and go meals will be available at all elementary school sites and WHS from 11 am-1 pm.

Notifications:
The Wenatchee School District will notify students, staff, and families of a closure due to inclement weather through Automated Phone Calls, emails, and text messages. Information on closures will also be available on the Wenatchee School District website, social media feed, and on local radio.

The decision to close buildings is not taken lightly. It’s disruptive for working parents that have to come up with a plan for the care of children. We recommend families of young children develop a backup plan in the event that schools are closed and students need to continue learning online.
