Wenatchee Middle Schools Excel at SkillsUSA State Competition

The SkillsUSA State Competition took place in Tacoma recently, and it was a proud moment for Wenatchee middle schools as several of their Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs came out on top.

Pioneer Middle School's First Aid/CPR team was crowned State Champions and qualified for the National SkillsUSA competition. Meanwhile, Foothills Middle School's Sports Medicine team took home gold, silver, and bronze in Preventative Taping. The Job Skills Demo team from Orchard Middle School was also State Champions, and Alivia Hall won the Silver medal.

Alivia also flexed her art skills at state. She and teammate Cash Shay came home State Champs. Cash won gold for his demonstration on resin pouring, and Alivia earned silver for portrait photography.

The student's hard work and dedication paid off, and their achievements are a testament to their self-motivation, explained Larry Howe, FMS Sports Medicine and SkillsUSA Advisor. "The kids worked their tails off, and I couldn't ask for better results for them. I am very excited to see how far they can take it," he said. They have already started planning for next year and beyond, setting their sights even higher than before.

Beth Hammerberg WSD’s Middle School CTE Coordinator also won an award. Beth was presented with the SkillsUSA Cornerstone Award for her leadership and dedication to developing CTE and SkillsUSA in Wenatchee middle schools.

Congratulations to all the winners, and we wish them the best of luck in the upcoming national competition.
