Parent Teacher Conferences: Three Full Days for Conferencing, Plus Classified Staff to Attend Training

While parents and teachers are meeting during Conference Days this year, classified staff members will be attending training.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Wednesday through Friday November 1-3. Conferences are full days this year, and there will be no school for students on those three days. Conference days were expanded this year to open up mornings for parents to meet with their child’s teachers and to provide more time for teachers to talk with parents, if need be. The days also offered training opportunities for classified staff. “While our teachers are conducting parent-teacher conferences,” explains Lisa Turner, Human Resources Executive Director, “our classified staff will be attending a variety of trainings.”

Classified staff will choose from a schedule of training options, including technology and PBIS.

Technology offerings will include software used throughout the district, primarily Google web-based software office suite offered as part of Google Drive service, and Excel.

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) is the district-wide behavior framework for optimal social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students. PBIS comes with it’s own vocabulary and procedures. By making sure every staff member understands PBIS, students will know what behaviors are acceptable no matter where they are.

“From teachers to the bus drivers, a student can have consistent PBIS expectations throughout the day, and have consistent consequences when there are behavior issues,” says Turner. “Everyone is speaking the same language, and it’s better teamwork. We’re excited about that.”

On Friday, all classified staff will come together to hear renowned expert on learning and the brain, Marcia Tate. Tate will also presenting a parent night Thursday evening at 6PM at Wenatchee High School—a free training for all interested community members, no RSVP required.

Remember, there is no school November 1-3, but we invite parents to take advantage of this expanded schedule, and also to come see Marcia Tate, who will help you prepare your child for success in school and in life.
