School Meal info for 20-21 School Year

School Meal info for 20-21 School Year

During the spring, Nutrition Services operated under an emergency summer feeding program where all children 0-18 years of age in the community qualified to receive free grab and go meals at any of our sites regardless of qualifying meal service category of free, reduced, or paid.

We will be operating under the traditional National School Breakfast and Lunch Program (NSLP) for the fall opening. This means we will only serve enrolled children in the district, and each student needs to be processed through our point of sale system by their qualifying categories of free, reduced, or paid status.

We encourage students to pick up meals at their enrolled school but will allow pick up at any school location. Students enrolled in the Wenatchee Internet Academy (WIA) will be allowed to pick up meals at any school sites.

Students will need their student ID cards to verify enrollment and process their meal account charges based on their qualifying status (free, reduced or paid) for daily meal pick up.

Grab-and-Go Meals Service

  • Meal service will be curbside grab-and-go, Monday - Friday from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at all sites except for Pioneer and Foothill Middle Schools. Services at Pioneer and Foothills will be available from 11:00 AM -1:45 PM.
  • Student ID cards are required for meal pick up.
  • Parents, guardians, or family members are permitted to pick up meals for students but must show student ID cards.
  • New students and K-5 students may not have ID cards at the start of school. In this instance, parents, guardians, or family members must provide their student’s full legal name at the time of pick up for verification by Nutrition Service staff until their child’s ID card is available.
  • When coming to your school to pick up meals, please follow signs and staff directions for safely entering and picking up meals.
  • The meal service delivery model and schedules will continue to be evaluated based on the current instructional model.

Daily Menus

Each grab-and-go meal bag will include breakfast and lunch with 1- breakfast entree, 1- lunch entree,  2- fruit/juice,  1-2 vegetables, 1 snack, and 2-1% unflavored milk. Students must take complete meals with the exception of choosing to take only one milk rather than the two offered.

Monthly meal menus are posted on Nutrition Service website wenatcheeschools.org/food-services

Menus will include various hot and cold options and will come cold or with food safety and reheating instructions if applicable.

Free & Reduced Meal Qualification:
Students whose families receive state assistance for Basic Food Assistance, SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid automatically qualify for free and reduced meals. The District gets daily reports from the state to ensure we are updating and matching all family members in the household for approval. Nutrition Services staff will communicate with families of status changes and qualification by letters, emails, and phone calls.

Children certified as homeless by the school McKinney-Vento homeless liaison or designated as migrant by the school migrant coordinator qualify for free meals as well.

Meal Application:
Meal applications are required at the start of each year to continue the free or reduced status from last school year.

English Application
Spanish Application

Applications can be picked up at schools or the Nutrition Services Office (1201 Millerdale Ave. Wenatchee). Families have the first 30 days of the new school year to complete a new application. The 30-day completion date for this year is October 8, 2020. If a new application is not received by October 8, students will default to a ‘paid’ status and will be required to pay full price for meals.

Paying for Meals
To follow social distancing safety measures and reduce exposure for students and staff, we will not be taking payments during daily meal pick up. We ask you to deposit money on student accounts through our online E-FUNDS payment system or drop off a check or cash at the Nutrition Services Office, 91201 Millerdale Ave. The District will not turn any student away from receiving a meal regardless of account balance, but we ask that payment be made to cover the cost of the meals processed for your student.

If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact the WDS Nutrition Services Office at (509) 662-9345 or visit their website
