The 2019 Invent Wenatchee competition was held Friday, March 8 at the Pybus Public Market, Local Tel Event Center.  Student participants were 4th and 5th-grade studio students from Wenatchee elementary schools. Seventy-nine studio students have been working since October on their individual inventions. This opportunity strengthens their critical and creative thinking skills and incorporates innovation and problem-solving.

This was the 6th Annual Invent Wenatchee, which then sends students to a state competition, Invent Washington. Twenty community members volunteered their time and spent the afternoon judging student inventions. All inventions included a model, a display, and a logbook detailing their invention process, each of which was carefully considered.

Prodigy Northwest launched “Invent Washington” in 2013. Invention categories reflect 8 different industries - Health, Energy & Environment, Agriculture & Animals, Consumer Services, Entertainment, Jules Verne, Education, and Public Safety.

Forty-four students received awards, sponsored by a grant from the Apple STEM Network, recognizing their work.  Each award winner will have the opportunity to participate in the state Invent Washington, Washington State Invention Convention (WA iCon) on March 23 at North Central High School in Spokane.  An additional 16 students were also invited to participate in the state competition based on the level of their work. Those students who attend the state competition can continue to work to document, test and refine their inventions until March 23.  All students have been invited to showcase their inventions at the Mini-Maker Faire in the Town Toyota Center on Saturday, June 1.
