Wenatchee Superintendent Finalists Unveiled

The Wenatchee School District Board has chosen three finalists for the position of Wenatchee School District’s Superintendent. Dr. Kory Kalahar, Dr. Nicolas Wade, and Tavis Peterson will participate in the final round of interviews for the superintendent position on February 21, 23, and 27.

Dr. Kory Kalahar
Dr. Kalahar is passionate about helping Wenatchee students learn in a welcoming and safe environment that recognizes and supports their unique needs and lived experiences. For the past 24 years, he has engaged in and led this work as a classroom teacher, Assistant Principal at Wenatchee High School, and Principal of WestSide High School. Born and raised in Wenatchee, Dr. Kalahar is committed to the success of the Wenatchee schools and has a history of building relationships with community partners. Dr. Kalahar is currently the Wenatchee School District’s Assistant Executive Director of Learning and Teaching.

Dr. Nicolas Wade
For the past 15 years, Dr. Nicolas Wade has served in many public education capacities that span from classroom teacher to building administrator to central office. Dr. Wade most recently served as superintendent of the Elmwood Park CUSD #401 and Lexington County School District Two in West Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Wade has been able to address budget deficits, pursue significant capital improvement projects, close achievement gaps, and expand support services for the benefit of the whole child through strategic planning, stakeholder involvement, integrity, and honesty.

Tavis Peterson 
Tavis M. Peterson has served in the Washington State public schools system for over 23 years across three school districts.  He is currently in his fifth year as the Assistant Superintendent of the Wapato School District. District-wide initiatives Mr. Peterson has led include tribal relations, the promotion of equitable learning opportunities and behavior supports, safety, and the establishment of community partnerships.

Each finalist will participate in a full-day in-person interview consisting of group meetings and interviews, building and community tours, and a public forum.

The public is invited to meet each finalist during a moderated forum. Forums are scheduled to take place on February 21, 23, and 27, 5:30-6:30 PM at the Wenatchee High School Commons, 1101 Millerdale Ave. After each forum, attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback on each of the finalists through an online form. Forums are open to the public. Spanish translation services will be provided.

Video clips of each of the finalists are available on the  District’s superintendent search website wenatcheeschools.org/superintendent-search. The public is encouraged to view the videos and provide feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate using an online form. 

The Board anticipates making a final selection for the superintendent at a board meeting toward the end of February. The new superintendent will begin July 1, 2023.
