3D EARTH IN PHOTOSHOP
Create a 3D Earth with Photoshop!
STEP #1
Create a new PhotoShop Canvas.
Choose FILE>NEW and set Width to 1000, Height to 500, Resolution to 300.
(Make sure it is set to Pixels NOT inches!)
Name it 3D Earth (See example below!). Click OK.
Your screen should look something like this:
Control + Click the image below, choose Copy Image, and EDIT>PASTE into your Photoshop document.
STEP #2
Now you are going to apply the texture to a shape!
You are going to create a sphere.
Go to the menu at the top of the screen and choose 3D > NEW MESH FROM LAYER > MESH PRESET > SPHERE
(See how below):
You should now have something like this on your screen:
Pretty cool, huh?
Now we’re going to add some details to our 3D Earth model.
Some reflection, depth, and eventually clouds!
CONTROL + CLICK the image below and
Save Image As to the desktop as "earthbump1k.jpg"
Click the Sphere_Material layer.
Up above, Click Load Texture and choose earthbump1k.jpg from your Desktop.
Set the bump value to 90 or more, depending on what you think looks best.
Set the values as shown below:
You should have something that looks roughly like this:
STEP #3
Select the Infinite Light 1 layer
Click on the color box.
Then make the RGB values look E X A C T L Y like this (see below), then click OK.
Now create 2 more infinite light layers.
Set their RGB values to, 180 180 180
and 150, 150, 150.
Go to Sphere_Materials again, and find these settings.
CONTROL + CLICK this picture below and save as EarthSpec1k.jpg to the DESKTOP.
Click Specular then load the EarthSpec1k.jpg
Click OPEN then your planet should look much shinier like this:
STEP #4
Click on the Layers tab.
And duplicate the earth layer. Name it Clouds (See settings below)
Click OK.
STEP #5
Click on the 3D tab.
Click sphere_material
Remove the Diffuse, Specular, and Bump textures
You should be left with a white ball.
COMMAND + CLICK the image below and save it to the Desktop.
Call it earthcloudmaptrans.jpg
Go to the Opacity option, and click Load Texture
Open the earthcloudmaptrans.jpg.
Your Planet should now look like this.
Now click the same button and then click Edit Texture
A window should open that looks like this:
Press COMMAND + I to invert the colors.
It should now look like this:
Go back to your Earth screen.
Click the Layers tab.
Pull this OUT (See Below) until it gets to about 103% if you let go COMMAND + Z to change it back do the same with the two other colored arrows, this might take some trial and error.
Once its roughly in position shift+click on both layers then COMMAND + E to merge the layers, if it looks off COMMAND + Z back and adjust the size again.
It should look something like this:
CONTROL + CLICK the image below and choose SAVE IMAGE AS Starfield.jpg to the Desktop.
Click on the 3D panel, and choose ENVIRONMENT.
Follow the steps below:
Load Starfield.jpg from the Desktop.
Check PANORAMA
You should end up with something like this!
From your program, go to FILE>SAVE AS and choose DESKTOP,
then drag from the DESKTOP to GOOGLE DRIVE and the Correct Class Folder.
Save your final file in Google Classroom.
Just add the file from Google Drive.
