CHANGE YOURSELF INTO AN ALIEN IN PHOTOSHOP

In this lesson, you will use some more tools in Photoshop
Here’s some samples from previous years!

STEP #1

FIRST THING, AGAIN: THIS IS FUN!
Don’t take yourself too seriously. And YES, you have to take your photo again!
As I said, you will be using your own photo a lot this year!

Oh, and make sure you follow ALL the instructions or I will “un-submit” it!

Use a camera to take a photo of your face.

Save (share) your photo to your student gmail or student google drive.

Now you should be able to find it on your computer.
If you get stuck on how to get it into Photoshop, just ask Johnson!

STEP #2

Grab the Eraser Tool (click the “E” key) and erase the eyes.
If the tool is too large or too small, just tap the “bracket” keys ( [ or ] ) to change it.

Now use the Clone Stamp Tool (click the “S” key) to clone parts of the cheeks over the nose.
Hold down the Option key and click the area you want to clone, let go of the option key, then mouse over the place where you want the clone to go!
It’ll look like the nose is erased.
If the tool is too large or too small, just tap the “bracket” keys ( [ or ] ) to change it.

Use the Healing Brush Tool (click the “J” key) to fix any not natural looking parts on the place where the nose first was.

You will end up with something like this:

STEP #3

Go to Filter (menu at the top of the program) > Liquify Tool (or click “Shift+Command+X”) and a new window will show.

Use the Forward Warp Tool (click on “W”)

in this window to stretch out the empty place where the eyes first were.
Make sure the brush size is about the size of the eye area.
Stretch it until it has the shape of an alien eye.

Press OK to accept the changes.

STEP #4

Use the alieneyes.jpg file from BELOW and open it in CONTROL + CLICK it, and COPY IMAGE.

EDIT>PASTE it in the layer behind your face.

Scale the eye using Transform (click Command+T) until it’s at a right size to cover the white hole.

Use the Burn Tool to make the areas around the eyes a little bit darker so it will look more realistic.

If the tool is too large or too small, just tap the “bracket” keys ( [ or ] ) to change it.

STEP #5

Get ready to change some colors using Color Balance (command+B).
Play around with the Color Balance and Tone Balance until you think you have something alien-like.
I used these settings: Shadows: 0,20,0 Midtones: 0,20,0 Highlights: 0,40,0

STEP #6

Texture your face!
You’ve done this before! Find an appropriate alien texture on Google.
Click VIEW IMAGE, then CONTROL CLICK on it, and choose COPY IMAGE!
On a new layer, EDIT>PASTE the texture, and cover the face with the whole texture pattern using Transform (command+T) and Pull the Handles.
Then use the ERASER to erase texture not on your face and over your eyes and mouth.

Set the Blending Mode (where it says NORMAL at the top of the layers palette) of the texture layer to Color Burn and the Opacity around 25%.

STEP #7

Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool and cut out the background behind your face.
Find an alien type background on the internet (it should be at least 1500 pixels wide) to put behind your face.
Control click to copy it – make sure you have clicked View Image to get the largest version – and paste it in a layer behind your face.

From your program, go to FILE>SAVE AS and choose DESKTOP,
then drag from the DESKTOP to GOOGLE DRIVE and the Correct Class Folder.

Save your final file in Google Classroom.
Just add the file from Google Drive.
