PHOTOSHOP: CRACKING UP
In this lesson, you will learn about Textures in Photoshop
and some other cool tools to use when working with pictures!
Here’s a sample!
STEP #1
FIRST THING: Don’t take yourself too seriously!
Use a camera to take a photo similar to the one above.
Make sure your fingers are on your face so we can use them in the lesson!
Save (share) your photo to your student gmail or student google drive.
Now you should be able to find it on your computer.
If you get stuck on how to get it into Photoshop, just ask Johnson!
As you work, don’t forget to save your work before you leave class.
You will want to save it to the desktop, then open GOOGLE DRIVE.
You can open it up again the next time to work on it.
STEP #2
First you need to have two pictures opened in Photoshop – the picture of you from your phone/camera,
and a picture of paint peeling off the wall (you can use cracked paint 1
or cracked paint 2
).
When your face and cracked paint pictures open, copy and paste the crack picture onto your face picture. To do this, hit COMMAND + A, then COMMAND + C.
Change to your face layer and click COMMAND + V. The paint layer should appear on your face.
Rename the layer "cracks".
(Click on the layer name to rename it.)
STEP #3
Drag the crack where you would want it to be on your skin.
To make it smaller, go to EDIT>TRANSFORM (COMMAND + T).
Press Return (Enter) to set it.
You might need to give it the right angle
(so that it looks like it lays natural on your face).
For that again go in the menu EDIT>TRANSFORM>DISTORT and change the crack's perspective by pulling the edges of the selection.
When you like the results, press Return.

STEP #4
Click on the "cracks" layer and choose the "blending mode" (it says NORMAL) to MULTIPLY. This will make your crack a little see-through so you can tell how it looks on your face.

Use the Eraser Tool to erase any parts of the crack that might be over lips or under fingers. Remember, you can use the brackets ( [ and ] ) to make the Eraser larger or smaller.

STEP #5
Let's adjust the crack color to blend in better with the skin.
Go to IMAGES>ADJUSTMENTS>COLOR BLANCE.
Slide the bars around until the crack has a color more like the skin tone.

Select the BURN TOOL. Set it's EXPOSURE to 25-30% (See Below).
Otherwise it will be too dark.
Using the Burn Tool (Hold down the mouse button and drag around),
go around the inside edges of the crack layer and add some shadow.
I also put some shadow around the fingers. Check it out below!

That's it! You're done!
LAST STEPS
From your program, go to FILE>SAVE AS and choose DESKTOP,
then drag from the DESKTOP to GOOGLE DRIVE and the Correct Class Folder.
Save your final file in Google Classroom.
Just add the file from Google Drive.
