CREATE A CRYPTID IN PHOTOSHOP

Create a fictitious Cryptid in Photoshop!

Step 1

First – FOLLOW THESE STEPS ONE BY ONE.

Don’t look at them all at once.

Also, save to the desktop and upload to GOOGLE DRIVE
as you work so you don’t loose your file.

Don’t submit assignment until you show me your final version!

What is a Cryptid?
A Cryptid is a creature that has not been found or documented by science!

Your job is to create a Cryptid in Photoshop.
I want you to learn how to use the Photoshop tools on your own as much as you can.
If you don’t remember, use the Help menu to look up and research how to use them the right way.
You can also Google how to use them and look at tutorials if you want.

Your Cryptid must contain certain things:

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO, STEP BY STEP:

Your Cryptid must be a combination of two living creatures (except humans).

Decide what type of Cryptid you would like to create.
See the samples that I made below.

Google images of animals, reptiles, bugs, fish, etc.

Find 2 pictures you think you might use to make your Cryptid.
You want to make sure that your animals’ heads and/or bodies are facing about the same way, which will make it easier to combine them.

Make sure you click CONTROL + COPY IMAGE, then FILE>NEW and EDIT>PASTE into Photoshop to get the full size of your photo.

You will need to cut out the background of your main creature using the Polygonal Lasso Tool first,
leaving the animal on it’s own with nothing behind it.
HINT: Outline the animal by CLICKING and DRAGGING the Polygonal Lasso, then when done, SELECT>INVERSE to Delete the background.

Make sure you paste your second animal into the same photo of the first animal.

Again, you want to make sure that your animals’ heads and/or bodies are facing about the same way, which will make it easier to combine them.

Make sure you click CONTROL + COPY IMAGE, then EDIT>PASTE into your Photoshop document.

Now YOU need to figure out how to blend the connecting areas together
using the Clone Stamp tool, the Healing Brush tool, and even the Eraser tool.
Here’s a hint. Make sure you make a copy of the two layers of your animals in case you make a mistake!

ASK ME TO SHOW YOU HOW!

Ask others how to use these tools properly or look in the Help menu.
Don’t just click and click and click and hope they start to work for you!
Stop at the first sign of anything looking ‘wrong’.

I want the connecting parts to look as realistic as possible.

See my examples above. Don’t rush it just to get it done.

Step 2

Once you get your creature the way you want it, you will have to figure out where it should live.

You might consider somewhere totally different than where it normally would live.
(Again, see my examples above).

Google a background image.
Make sure it is at least 1500 pixels. You will see the numbers as you mouse over the picture.

Don’t forget to CONTROL + COPY IMAGE
and EDIT>PASTE the background into your photo.

You will need to drag down your background layer so it is under the other layers.

You might have to adjust the size of the background with COMMAND + T.

Step 3

When you are done, use the Horizontal Type (or Text) tool
to put the name of your Cryptid at the top of the image.

Do not Submit Assignment!
Show me your finished Cryptid
and I will approve it or make suggestions.

Once I have approved your Cryptid,

From your program, go to FILE>SAVE AS and choose DESKTOP,
then drag from the DESKTOP to GOOGLE DRIVE and the Correct Class Folder.

Save your final file in Google Classroom.
Just add the file from Google Drive.
