DRAW A CARTOON CHARACTER IN ANIMATE (PART 2)

Let’s continue drawing our Cartoon Character!

SHOE!
First, make a new layer above the leg layer called SHOE.
OK, use the PENCIL TOOL to draw a Shoe.
Draw it the best you can. Check out the video below.
After you draw your shoe, CHOOSE A FILL COLOR, and use the PAINT BUCKET to fill it.
REMEMBER, a shape has to be CLOSED or you can’t fill it with color!

Drag the SHOE layer under the layer that says LEG!

COPY LEGS LAYER!

First, you want to choose the LEG layer, then click the top line of the leg and hit DELETE.
Then, with the LEG layer still selected, hit CONTROL and COPY LAYERS.
Then CONTROL CLICK it again and choose PASTE LAYERS.
Name the new layer LEG 2.
Use the SELECTION TOOL and DOUBLE CLICK the leg to move the new leg to where you want it.
You may want to use the TRANSFORM TOOL to make it a little smaller.

COPY SHOE LAYER!

Same thing as the LEG…Choose the SHOE layer.

Then, with the SHOE layer still selected, hit CONTROL and COPY LAYERS.
Then CONTROL CLICK it again and choose PASTE LAYERS.
Call this new layer SHOE 2.
Use the SELECTION TOOL and double click to move the new shoe to where you want it.
You may want to use the TRANSFORM TOOL to make it a little smaller.

Step #15

Color Its Shirt!
Make sure you are on the BODY layer.
Choose the PAINT BUCKET TOOL.
Choose a FILL COLOR.
Dump the color into the shirt. You want to make sure the “V” part stays white.
You might need to go choose FILL WHITE and RE-PAINT BUCKET that part!

Step #16

We Need Arms!
Create a NEW LAYER and call it ARM.
Use the LINE TOOL and DRAW A RECTANGLE with 4 LINES.
Then DRAW A LINE near the bottom where the undershirt will stick out.

Use the PAINT BUCKET TOOL to fill in the arm with color.
You may have to use the EYE DROPPER to select the shirt color.
Then, choose the FILL COLOR WHITE to fill in the Undershirt part.

Finally curve the top of the arm into a shoulder by using the SELECTION TOOL and pulling it up from the center.

Now drag the ARM LAYER to the top of the LAYERS.

Step #17

Give ’em a Hand!
Create a NEW LAYER and call it HAND.
Use the PENCIL TOOL and draw your hand.
Then use the EYE DROPPER TOOL to choose the color of the face, and click inside the hand to fill it in!
Then drag the HAND LAYER below the ARM LAYER.

Step #18

Final Touches!
You can add special touches to your character if you want.
You can add a zipper and pocket to the shirt like this:

Change the Hair, Pants or Shirt color. Make sure you are on the right layer, though!
Play around with your character. You will be doing some animating of them in a future lesson!

From your program, go to FILE>SAVE AS and choose DESKTOP,
then drag from the DESKTOP to GOOGLE DRIVE and the Correct Class Folder.

Save your final file in Google Classroom.
Just add the file from Google Drive.
