STEP #1
CHOICES
This year, you will have a choice of what to paint with Photoshop.
You should look at each choice before you start!
You can choose to Paint a Face (Click Here),
OR
Paint an Eye (Click Here),
OR
new this year, Paint a Painting (Click Here)!
PAINT A FACE
If you choose to Paint a Face, find a picture of a face
(in color, animal or human – school appropriate please) with Google.
Look for an image with at least 2,000 pixels as the first pixel number.
Here’s a tip:
When you look at Google Images, click Search Tools
Then click SIZE and 4MP (2272×1704).
This will search for a large image to paint, so that we can print it out on a large size photo paper at the end.
Make sure you click VIEW IMAGE to get the full size face when you find the one you want.

Or you can use a picture of yourself, but you will need to use one from your phone.
Just save it to Google Docs.
STEP #2
Hold down CONTROL and click on the image. Choose COPY IMAGE.
Go into Photoshop and choose FILE>NEW…
When the New Window comes up, don’t change any settings, just click OK.
Choose EDIT>PASTE… or hit Command + V
If you see any of these messages below, just click OK.
And you should see something like this!
STEP #3
Add a New Layer above your face layer.
Click the icon next to the small trash can at the bottom of the Layers Palette and you will get your new layer.
ZOOM IN a little using COMMAND +.
Make sure you LOCK the original face layer by clicking on that layer and clicking the little lock icon.
This way you won’t accidentally draw on the original face.
STEP #4
Choose colors and select brushes to paint your face on the blank layer.
Choose the BRUSH TOOL and , then set the settings as shown.
When you begin to paint, you may need to adjust the brush size smaller or larger by using the bracket keys ( [ or ] ).
Make sure the new blank layer is selected.
Hold down the OPTION key and the cursor will turn into an EYE DROPPER.
Move the paintbrush around and see how the color on top turns into the color of the picture.
Click and Select a color of the face to use with the paintbrush. (See Below):
Paint the color you chose OVER the same color on your face.
TAKE YOUR TIME AND ZOOM IN IF YOU NEED TO!
Keep choosing new colors with the eyedropper to paint the rest of the face.
Change brush sizes if you need to with the left and right brackets ( [ and ] ).
STEP #5
See How You Are Doing!
Turn off the “EYE” on the original face layer to see how you are doing every once in a while.
Keep choosing colors with the eyedropper and adjusting your brush size to finish painting the rest of your face.
You might want to try more new layers for different parts of the face as you progress.
This will take a while (many days).
Use lots of colors from the face picture.
Let me know if you have any questions or need help!
