John Newbery Elementary Student’s Arriving and Departing In Vehicles Procedures

To ensure the safety and quick drop-off and pick-up of our students, it's crucial that we all work together as a school community. As parents, your cooperation is vital in following the drop-off and pick up procedures, which not only keeps the process smooth but also ensures the well-being of all our children. By modeling positive behavior—such as patience, respect, and adherence to the rules—you set an important example for your children and others. Let’s collaborate to create a safe and orderly environment where every student can start and end their day on the right foot.

ARRIVAL: 

Parents, for your safety please remain in your vehicle.  Continue to pull forward as far as you can to allow all traffic to move behind you.  All traffic will drive to the back cul-de-sac, near the portables, and loop towards the front, asphalt playground area.  Vehicles will enter the drop-off lane and continue to pull forward as far as possible before stopping to have your child exit the vehicle. Children may be dropped off 20 minutes before school starts (Monday 8:50, Tuesday - Friday 7:20). It is extremely helpful to have your child gather all their belongings while waiting in line and exit the car as soon as it comes to a stop. Students should arrive before 7:40 to avoid being tardy. If you enter the parking lot at 7:40 your child will likely be tardy.  Please arrive early, especially during inclement weather.

Transitional Kindergarteners, Kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 4th graders will line-up with their classmates in the fenced, asphalt playground nearest the drop-off lane until teachers pick them up at 7:40 to enter the school.

2nd, 3rd and 5th graders will walk past the school entrance, cafeteria, and gym to line up in the back playground until teachers pick them up at 7:40 to enter the school.

RED FLAG DAYS 

Due to inclement weather, all students will be in the gym after arriving at school if it is below 20 degrees, or unhealthy air quality.

DEPARTURE:  

Parents, for your safety remain in your vehicle.  Please continue to pull forward as far as you can to allow all traffic to move behind you.  All traffic will drive to the back cul-de-sac, near the portables, and loop towards the front, asphalt playground area.  Vehicles will enter the pick-up lane and continue to pull forward as far as possible before your child will be released to enter the vehicle on the right side.

Transitional Kindergarten and transitional kindergarten siblings pick-up begins at 2:15pm (only for students picked up in the parking lot).  Students will be waiting outside the Kindergarten wing with an adult and be released to your vehicle at a safe, and appropriate time. Siblings will not be release until 2:20. Please pull forward as far as possible to wait.  

Kindergarten and kindergarten siblings pick-up begins at 2:20pm (only for students picked up in the parking lot).  Please do not arrive early. Students will be waiting outside the Kindergarten wing with an adult and be released to your vehicle at a safe, and appropriate time.  

Bus Riders and Walkers dismissed at 2:30pm. Walkers need to depart from school as soon as they are dismissed. The playgrounds are not available immediately after school.

1st-5th grade pick-up begins at 2:30pm.  Students will be waiting in the fenced, asphalt playground area with an adult and be released to your vehicle at a safe, and appropriate time.
