Standards Based Grading (SBG)

Introduction to Standards Based Grading:

The teachers at FMS are committed to using research supported best practices to enhance student learning. One of those practices is commonly referred to as Standards Based Grading (SBG).Although traditional letter grades have long been used in schools, when considering the purpose of grades Standards Based Grading practices are more accurate and effective.

Standards Based Grading helps students:

• focus on targeted learning goals
• build necessary skills and knowledge
• have multiple opportunities to be successful
• have the opportunity to exceed grade level expectations.
