WSD Cancels Field Trips, Athletic Contests. Restricts School Visitors

The Wenatchee School District announced today that starting Monday, March 16th all field trips, staff travel, and athletic contests and games will be canceled through April 5th due to COVID-19 concerns. Outdoor athletic practices will resume as planned; however, parents are directed not to attend any athletic practices.

School volunteers, visitors and guest speakers will not be allowed in any District building through April 5th.  Parents will continue to be allowed to visit schools for essential business only. The District will continue to monitor and evaluate as this rapidly changing situation unfolds.

The District’s decision comes on the heels of Governor Jay Inslee’s unprecedented announcement to cancel school in three western Washington counties. The Governor has advised schools to begin planning for impending school closures across the state. The Wenatchee School District is developing plans to prepare for the possibility of prolonged mandatory closures. In particular, plans are being made for how to continue to provide non-educational supports for students such as providing food and developmental disability supports.

At this time, the Chelan-Douglas Health District has not advised that Wenatchee School District close. We will continue to work closely with experts and government and educational partners to learn as much as is known and to be prepared as possible for the impacts and implications that COVID-19 may have for schools and school districts.

One of the parents that had reportedly been undergoing testing for COVID-19 has received a negative test result. The second parent, after further investigation with healthcare authorities, was in fact not, undergoing COVID-19 testing as previously reported.

More information on closures and the impacts of COVID-19 on our schools is available at wenatcheeschools.org/updates.
