Dear Students & Guardians, the WVTSC has been given the opportunity to run a summer session.  This session has been altered to meet our current situation.  We are hoping to be able to run some type of blended educational model that will allow distance learning with on-campus support.  The on-campus component would be based on scheduled appointments and would only happen if it meets the CDC and Washington State Guidelines.  At no point would the on-campus component be required.  (At this point based on where Chelan and Douglas county is at, Phase 1, being on campus will not be an option.)  With this being said it is our goal to provide an engaging project for each of our programs that touch on industry standards.  While we will not be offering the .5 credit this summer, taking part in this program will still give you a great idea of what the program and instructors offer.  Our session will start on June 22nd and will end on July 3rd.  All materials will be provided by the Wenatchee Valley Tech Center. To participate we will need an email that your student will be able to check to access google classroom.

To confirm that your son or daughter will participate please email bowen.p@wenatcheeschools.org or call 509-662-8827 x25221 and leave a message.  If you have any questions, please leave a message and Pam will get back to you as soon as possible.  The last day to register will be June 19th.

START DATE: JUNE 22ND

END DATE: JULY 3RD

Distance Summer Session Descriptions:

Digital Media Arts

DMA Summer Academy will be creating a stop motion project with students using Adobe Rush, using a free 7-day trial version.   Adobe Rush will allow students to capture and edit on their phones if they meet the minimum requirements (link below).  If student phones do not meet the minimum requirements, they can still capture video on their phones, and edit in a computer that meets the minimum requirements (link below).

We will be creating a story, storyboards, and a script in the first week, then move into production (capture), and finally post-production (editing).

Construction:

"WVT Construction Trades will be framing houses for summer school. Each student will receive a balsa wood kit of a framed house. Learn the correct terms of all the framing members of a house, their placement, and how each piece fits into the whole of a framed house. Do you know what a stud is and its purpose? How about a header?  Did you know there are King studs in your house walls? Learn all these terms, their function, and how they work together to frame a house. Learn while you build the model and watch your house come together as you construct it. And guess what? Your model will be exactly like the framed houses you see being built around the town. So join the fun, sign up for summer school and learn how to frame a house that you build with your own hands. Kits are provided to all students at no cost to you. You will have access to Mr. Fike, the instructor, for any questions you have and for helping you solve any problems you may encounter. And the completed house is yours to keep."

Video Game Programming

Use a current version of the gaming engine, Unity, to build a 2d or 3d game from the tutorials given from their website. (Examples are: UFO, Space Shooter, Roll a Ball, Survival Shooter)  Once completed, you will then “tweak” the game with your customizations and add a piece of your custom “sprite” or asset created in the online app, Piskel.  You will then export your game as an independent .exe file for me to play on my computer.  To start this project, you and I will agree on a tutorial of your choice.
