Virtual STEM Showcase: Six Weeks of STEM Projects for K-12 Start Feb. 1

GWATA and the Apple STEM Network are launching the Virtual STEM Showcase which starts Monday, February 1st and it runs through Sunday, March 14th. The Virtual STEM Showcase is a unique opportunity for students to participate and showcase projects in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) over a six week period. There are six different STEM categories with open project ideas for K-12 youth to try at home.

There is no cost to participate and students can submit as many project submissions as they like. Community members are encouraged to vote for their favorite challenges over the six week period. The two students with the highest number of votes in the following categories: grades K-5, grades 6-8 students, and grades 9-12 will each receive a $100 visa gift card and their project will be displayed online.

Since 2013, the NCW Tech & STEM Showcase has been an annual opportunity to highlight the ways in which students and educators are utilizing technology and STEM in the classroom to the community. Wenatchee School District initially started the event and as the size and demand to showcase grew; GWATA was given the opportunity to take it over and expand participation to all 29 school districts in North Central Washington. Past Showcases featured K-12 presenters, projects, and innovations from all age ranges and abilities. In 2020, GWATA successfully navigated moving the event online right at the start of the pandemic. Building on this success, GWATA is continuing the event in a virtual format and is excited to have added more project ideas that really engage learners across a wide range of ages.

Any K-12 student in North Central Washington can enter a project. In order to qualify to win, students simply have to submit their projects through the Apple STEM website. All projects are then displayed online for public vote. Using the hashtag #TechMeOutNCW, students (and parents) are also encouraged to post completed projects on social media for more visibility.

Now more than ever, the organizers of this event would like to take the opportunity to highlight, celebrate and engage students, educators, and local families who are utilizing Technology and STEM in both the classroom and in remote learning.

Interested students, educators, and families can see details about the different STEM categories, submit projects, and vote at:
