Alex Albert wins Individual Sports Med. State Championship; WHS Sports Med. Team Places 2nd in State

2018-2019 Sports Medicine Team

Wenatchee High School senior Alex Albert was crowned Sports Medicine State Champion at the 25th Annual Washington Career and Technical Sports Medicine Association (WCTSMA) Championships on April 20th in Tacoma.  The competition featured 52 schools and nearly 900 students. He was also named the top senior in the state.

The Wenatchee High School Sports Medicine team placed 2nd in the state as WHS extended its state-record streak of 25 consecutive years of top 4 finishes with 20 of those finishes in the top 2. Wenatchee was also named Academic State Champions. The Panthers placed 2nd in the state in both the Quiz Bowl and Anatomage competitions.

Placing in other varsity categories were senior Kara Richards (sr.) 4th medical terminology, Nyah Hughes (soph.) 4th exercise science, and Jaden Dooley (jr.) 5th anatomy and physiology. Nancy Carr (sr.) who was a last minute replacement for a student that was unable to compete placed 25th in the varsity oral/practical category. Carr’s participation helped the Panthers seal the 2nd place team finish.

Mackenzie Lamey (sr.) placed in 2nd in the Educational Program Admissions Competition.  Abby Mayfield (jr.) was elected to the WCTSMA state student leadership board.

The Wenatchee Sports Medicine JV team placed 4 students in the top 10. Lucy Wright (Jr.), Jade Gunderson (soph.), JJ Jelsing (soph.), and exchange student Markus Berg (sr.). 

The Panther Sports Medicine team qualified to compete at the AACI National Sports Medicine Competition in May.
