Knowledge Bowl team places 8th in the 4A classification at the 2021 Knowledge Bowl Nationals

On May 1, 2021, the Wenatchee HS Knowledge Bowl team placed 8th in the 4A classification at the first interstate Knowledge Bowl tournament, the 2021 Knowledge Bowl Nationals. The WHS team played one written round and six oral rounds on the Discord platform, which allowed teams to compete head-to-head using rules very similar to in-person competitions here in WA State.

Three teams compete against one another at a time in each oral round after the written round which is essentially a test covering a vast array of subjects. Each team attempted to answer more than 200 questions in the head-to-head oral rounds ranging in topics from physics to literature and from history to current events. Similar scoring teams played against one another in a format known as power-matching where stronger teams rise in the rankings to play one another and weaker teams drop down to play teams more at their level.

In preparation for this tournament, Wenatchee's KB team played online in a modified regular season (December - March) primarily against local teams but also against teams across WA State.  Wenatchee's team at the 2021 Knowledge Bowl Nationals consisted of the following students: Sophie Black, Colin Butler, Abby Danko, Adam Fadich, Richard Kesterson, Ian Morfin-Valencia, Shaena Morgan.  The team was coached by WHS English teacher, Chris Cloke.
