FCCLA State Competition Results

FCCLA students attended their State Competition and Leadership Conference at the Wenatchee Convention Center this week with two students earning gold awards.

Diego Martinez Castro competed in Promote and Publicize FCCLA (a marketing competition) and not only won gold but was a National Qualifier. Diego will attend the National Competition and Leadership Conference in Denver, Colorado, this summer. He is the first Wenatchee competitor that has qualified to attend Nationals.

Gretchen Wendoft competed in Public Policy Advocate. Her topic was about period poverty and how we can influence change locally and beyond. Gretchen also won gold.

Rebecca Booth and Elliot Scharpp attended the conference as student evaluators. They were in charge of judging competitive projects with adult evaluators to determine project ranking (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and ultimately decided which projects made it to Nationals. They evaluated the events Sports Nutrition & Fashion Design.

On Wednesday, Wenatchee High School hosted the Baking and Pastry Competition in the culinary room. There were 12 teams from across the state (unfortunately, none were from Wenatchee), and they were split into AM and PM groups. We hosted two local bakers from our area - Sarina Garrett, Owner of Cupcake Blues, and Jodi Johnson of Cake Chic, who served as adult evaluators. Student competitors had 3 hours to develop four products: Chocolate Chip Cookies, Blueberry Muffins, and Creme Puff Pastries, and decorate a dummy cake utilizing proper technique on Rosettes, Shells, scripting Roses w/ leaves, and more.
