Volleyball Secures State Championship & Fall Sports Recap

Volleyball team with state championship trophy

Now that winter sports are underway and the first snow has fallen, it's time to look back at all the great feats our students accomplished this fall! The cross country, swim and dive, volleyball, and girl’s soccer teams all made it to state this season.

Volleyball was the final team to attend state – although last certainly didn’t mean least, as Wenatchee is now home to the volleyball state champions! After an undefeated season and drawing 3rd seed in the 4A state tournament, the varsity volleyball team defeated North Creek on November 18th to secure the championship. The tournament took place two days and four matches, each with a lively Panther Pit thanks to a last-minute bus that allowed Wenatchee students to cheer on the team in Yakima.

Congratulations to everyone who had a hand in making volleyball such a success and a positive force at WHS this year!

Cross country was the first to attend state this season, with Kylah Madriaga placing 2nd and Max Meadows placing 14th overall. Madriaga set multiple course records this season and went on to run in the NXR Northwest Regional Championships in Idaho.

14 athletes attended state for girls' swim and dive with Maya Soto placing 2nd in dive. WHS placed 14th overall with Sadie Sullivan and Lindsay Sutton as standouts in individual freestyle races.  Wenatchee Swim & Dive has proven itself a leader in adaptive athletics, with adaptive swimmers Bella Martinez, Shannon Wiest, and Jillian McIrvin competing at state.

Girl’s soccer advanced to state with three of their players (Piper Davidson, Natalie Boles, and Ava Coble) moving on to compete in the 1st team in the All-Conference competitions. Piper Davidson was also awarded Offensive Player of the Year for the Big-9 Conference. Three players from WHS were also chosen for the 2nd team.

The football team finished 4th in their district tournament. Anthony Garcia-Punter and Conner Christiansen will go on to play offense in their All-Conference 1st team with an additional 4 players being selected for the second team. This season marked Coach Devereaux's final with the football team after 20 years!

Slowpitch softball returned this year after a lengthy hiatus, advancing to their district competition. When they return to practice next fall, they will be the first to do so on the brand new softball field to be built in Triangle Park.

Thanks to everyone who supported our student athletes this fall season! Be sure to check the athletics schedule this winter for basketball, wrestling, bowling, and boys' swimming schedules.
