Inspiring Tomorrow’s Healthcare Professionals

Inspiring Tomorrow’s Healthcare Professionals

Over 50 students took turns speaking to 16 professionals from across the healthcare industry on Tuesday morning, including nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and more.

WHS Accelerated Pathways program offered this event for community members to come share the diverse jobs in the healthcare field with students that have shown interest in this as a career option. These students aren’t required to be here – they’ve signed up for the opportunity to learn from amazing volunteers from our community and learn about the diversity in a career path that can seem so narrow.

Students have a variety of ways to demonstrate interest in a particular career path and be a part of learning opportunities just like this one. As part of students’ required High School and Beyond Plan, they must telegraph career interests that Pathways staff can use to identify and invite them to career-specific events. Students involved in Accelerated Pathways or CTE student organizations, like DECA or FBLA for business or HOSA for healthcare, are often the first to hear about career enrichment opportunities offered by WHS or the community.

The Accelerated Pathways program helps students prepare for life after high school by offering associates degrees and career certifications on the WHS campus. Pathways staff are always looking for community partners interested in sharing their career stories with individual or small groups of students. If you would like to get involved or know of a student interested in participating in career events, please contact CTE Coordinator Amy Spietz.
