Heart of the Panther Recipients 2026

Heart of the Panther: Extra Effort awardee Briana Alvarez accepted her award from WHS Assistant Principal Yumiko Savage.

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2026 Heart of the Panther awards! Every year, Heart of the Panther recognizes seniors, staff, and community members who illustrate true Panther Pride and understand the meaning of commitment and dedication. WHS is proud to announce the following recipients:

Involvement: Naveen Nayak

From championing student voices on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council, to helping save taxpayers and local businesses money as a Student Energy Manager, to co-founding Play for All, a nonprofit removing financial barriers from youth athletics, Naveen has demonstrated a commitment to serving his community. He shared his award with Play for All co-founder, Gael Nunez.

Attitude: Alejandro Anguiano

Alex graduates from WHS as a true leader. From his first moments as a Panther, Alex has seen the needs of others and gone out of his way to meet them. In and out of his JROTC uniform, Alex is seen as a problem-solver and ambassador to the community for the best WHS has to offer.

Extra Effort: Briana Alvarez

Throughout her time at WHS, Briana has quietly risen above prior hardships and come to expect the best from herself for her own betterment. Briana will attend Seattle University on a full-ride scholarship and represent the best of Wenatchee wherever she goes.

Super Staff - Certificated: Cindy Shwartzenberger “Schwartzy”

Cindy lives every day by the motto, carpe diem – seize the day. She encourages students to make the most of every school day and displays her caring for students by listening and meeting them where they’re at, all while holding them to high standards.

Super Staff - Classified: Tanya Dacey

Tanya’s welcoming attitude and positivity makes her the best first impression for WHS. No matter how busy things may be, she always makes time for anyone who walks through the door and helps students, staff, and families feel supported.

Community Support: Confluence Health

Confluence Health has been a continued, dedicated supporter of Wenatchee CTE programs. Their leadership and staff have demonstrated exceptional generosity, providing the time, expertise, and equipment necessary to support Medical Occupations students at WHS. These contributions have been vital to the program's success and in developing Wenatchee’s future healthcare professionals.
