WSD Receives $21,000 Donation from CFNCW Back to Basics School Campaign

The Wenatchee School District has been awarded $21,769 from the Community Foundation of NCW (CFNCW) from donations made to their Back to Basics school fundraising campaign in September. The funds will be used to directly help Wenatchee students and families who are struggling with the effects of the pandemic. 

“Earlier this spring when schools shut down, we heard a few stories about students having a hard time staying engaged in remote learning because they were having to care for their younger siblings, or their parents lost jobs and were struggling to put food on the table,” said Beth Stipe, the foundation’s executive director. “We knew we had to do something about it, and help provide some basic needs so they could focus on their education as much as possible.”

CFNCW distributed a total of $106,633 to NCW school districts through the campaign. WSD received a portion of these funds based on the district’s population and the number of low-income students enrolled. Donations from the public were directed to the school districts of their choice.

District staff are working on ways to distribute funds to make the greatest impact on students and families in need. “We continue to be blown away by the generosity and kindness of our community during this time of need for so many in our school community— we can’t thank the donors and CFNCW enough,” said Wenatchee Superintendent Dr. Paul Gordon. 

The school board is scheduled to take action on accepting the donation at their November 10th board meeting.

WSD recibe una donación de $ 21,000 de CFNCW Regreso a lo Básico Campaña Escolar 

El Distrito Escolar de Wenatchee ha recibido $21,769 de la Fundación Comunitaria de NCW (CFNCW) de donaciones hechas a su campaña de recaudación de fondos escolares Regreso a lo Básico en septiembre. Los fondos se utilizarán para ayudar directamente a los estudiantes y familias de Wenatchee que están luchando con los efectos de la pandemia. 

“A principios de esta primavera, cuando las escuelas cerraron, escuchamos algunas historias sobre estudiantes que tenían dificultades para mantenerse involucrados en el aprendizaje remoto porque tenían que cuidar a sus hermanos menores, o sus padres perdieron sus trabajos y estaban luchando por poner comida en la mesa. ”, dijo Beth Stipe, directora ejecutiva de la fundación. “Sabíamos que teníamos que hacer algo al respecto y ayudar a satisfacer algunas necesidades básicas para que pudieran concentrarse en su educación tanto como fuera posible”.

CFNCW distribuyó un total de $106,633 a los distritos escolares de NCW a través de la campaña. WSD recibió una parte de estos fondos según la población del distrito y el número de estudiantes de bajos ingresos inscritos. Las donaciones del público se dirigieron a los distritos escolares de su elección.

El personal del distrito está trabajando en formas de distribuir fondos para tener el mayor impacto en los estudiantes y las familias necesitadas. “Continuamos impresionados por la generosidad y amabilidad de nuestra comunidad durante este tiempo de necesidad de tantos en nuestra comunidad escolar; no podemos agradecer lo suficiente a los donantes y CFNCW”, dijo el superintendente de Wenatchee, Dr. Paul Gordon. 

La junta escolar está programada para tomar medidas para aceptar la donación en su reunión de junta el 10 de noviembre.
