Police Prioritizing School Zone Enforcement

Police Prioritizing School Zone Enforcement

Students are excited to walk to school, participate in spring sports, and enjoy the sunny outdoors as the weather warms up. However, with more students outside near our schools, we must take extra precautions to ensure their safety, especially when it comes to traffic around schools and bus stops.

Wenatchee School District and the Wenatchee Police Department’s newly formed traffic unit are teaming up to focus on traffic safety, particularly in school zones and around bus stops. They work to educate drivers about the importance of safe driving around schools and bus stops, including slowing down and avoiding distractions like texting or talking on the phone. Enforcing traffic laws and educating drivers will foster a safer environment for everyone on the road.

In February, the WPD Traffic unit made 173 traffic stops, issued 106 infractions, 33 of which were in school zones, made 4 DUI arrests, handled 33 collisions, and led 15 hours of public education.

We urge you to slow down, pay attention, and keep our students safe when driving near a school or bus stop. By working together, we make sure our children safely enjoy all the outdoor activities they love.
