Five teachers earned their National Board Certification and three teachers renewed their Board Certification.
Rocio Gonzalez, Lincoln, Michael Lasater, WHS, Donna Limon, Lewis & Clark, Kristina Mason, Lincoln, and William White, WHS, School Counseling, completed the rigorous process to earn the certification.
Teachers renewing their certification are Connie Siepman, Columbia, Mark Woolsey, Technology Facilitator, and Ann Young, Columbia. See photos on Facebook.
"The process of achieving this was grueling, to say the least,” says Kristina Mason. “The most important thing I learned through the entire process was to be a more reflective and flexible teacher. I will be more aware of different learning styles and the need to evaluate what I taught, what worked, and what I need to reteach.”
“I appreciated the opportunity to examine my practices,” says WHS counselor Will White. “I believe it encouraged me to be more thoughtful about my interactions, and, hopefully, students will benefit from that.”
Washington has the largest group of new National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) for the third consecutive year, according to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. A total of 329 Washington teachers achieved their certification this year. Washington ranks fourth, nationwide, in the total number of National Board Certified Teachers.
“The National Board certification process is not easy,” said Randy Dorn, superintendent of public instruction. “It takes content knowledge and commitment to student learning. I’m proud of the work these teachers have done for their students and their profession.”
