WHS Mock Trial Takes Third in State

The Wenatchee High School Mock Trial team placed third at the 2018 State Championship Tournament March 23-25 in Olympia.

“We placed 3rd overall,” said coach Frank Brandt. “We went 4-0 in our trials and just missed out on making the finals on a tie breaker.  We did however knockoff Seattle Prep in the 4th round. They had won the state title the last 15 years. We beat them 2-1. The students did an amazing job.”

The team is coached by Chelan County Superior Court Judge Lesley Allan, attorney Tracy Brandt Brandt, Frank Brandt, who is an attorney and a teacher at Westside High.

Although it’s the end of the road for the team, Frank Brandt says that they will most likely put together an all-star team to compete nationally later this year. Last year, the all-star team took first place nationally in competition held in Chicago in August, 2017.

In Mock Trial teens work with legal professionals in their community to develop an understanding of real life case law and the role of the court system in a democratic society. The program is part of Washington State YMCA Youth & Government program.
