The Wenatchee School District has received approval from the State of Washington Apprenticeship Council and the Department of Labor and Industries to offer a Computer Technician 1 registered youth apprenticeship. WSD computer tech apprenticeship program is the first of its kind in the State of Washington. There are four other youth apprentice programs in the state, but Wenatchee’s program is the only one that is being administered by a school district and not an outside party.

Eligible high school juniors and seniors will be paired with journeymen level District technology staff and will receive classroom instruction through related Career & Technical Education courses such as computer repair and programming at Wenatchee High School.

WSD Career & Technical Education Director Dennis Conger is leading the effort to develop apprenticeship pathways for the District and the region as part of Governor Inslee’s Career Connect Washington initiative. Conger and a team of partners are also exploring apprenticeship pathways for youth in hospitality, veterinary and agriculture.
