School Board Announces Community Conversation Series, Seeks Feedback on School Facilities

Community Conversations

The Wenatchee School District Board of Directors will be hosting two Community Conversations on the topic of Future School Facilities on October 9 from 7:00-7:45 p.m. at Wenatchee High School and on October 28 from 6:00-6:45 p.m. at the Pybus Public Market. The purpose of these meetings is to engage in dialogue about current and future school facility needs with the public.

“We look forward to hearing feedback on our school buildings and gaining valuable insight into what our stakeholders envision for schools of the future,” said Wenatchee School District Communications Director, Diana Haglund.

Community Conversations are part of a larger school board community engagement plan that was approved by the Board earlier this month. The purpose of this plan was to create space outside of board meetings for Directors to engage in ongoing conversations with the entire community. “Our Board is eager to begin the work of involving diverse citizens in dialogue, deliberation and collaborative thinking around common interests for our schools,” Haglund explained.

One of the main strategies of the community engagement plan was to create a series of Community Conversations as a means for the Board to listen and understand the underlying values, concerns, and priorities of district residents, school families, students, and staff. The Board and district administration can use feedback and data collected during these conversations to aid future planning efforts and policy.

The Community Conversations series will be hosted in Wenatchee schools and at local community venues quarterly. The School Board and administration will provide updates about the school district and pose questions about various topics for stakeholder input. Future Community Conversations topics are Social-Emotional Learning and Post Secondary Pathways. These conversations are currently being planned and will be announced at a later date.

Community Conversations are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and translations services will be made available. More information on the Community Conversation series is available at wenatcheeschools.org
