Educational Justice Learning Support Starts Sept. 28

Educational Justice Learning Support Starts Sept. 28

We know parents are anxious for their children to return to school in person. The Wenatchee School District is also eager to return ALL students to school as soon as we are granted permission by the Chelan-Douglas Health District (CDHD) to safely do so. Until that time, we have been permitted by the CDHD to allow a limited number of students to return to school for educational justice services starting Monday, September 28th.

Most students returning to school will not receive direct instruction. They will be provided with a safe space to participate in online learning, school meals, and a stable internet connection. Due to current guidance from health officials, the number of students allowed on campus will be limited to cohort groups of no more than five students. The number of cohort groups will be determined by the availability of classified staff supervisors and space. Students will be required to wear masks and maintain social distancing requirements while on site.

Students who qualify for educational justice services include;

  • IEPs: Students who are receiving special education support and are unable to access learning online not due to lack of motivation or engagement and are able to maintain health and safety guidelines,
  • Students who are experiencing housing insecurity,
  • Newcomers (English Language Learners),
  • Students with significant socioeconomic disadvantage

Students with extenuating circumstances will also be considered on a case-by-case basis and will require further discussion with your child's principal to determine eligibility. Please arrange a meeting by contacting your child's school if you feel your child should be considered for social justice services.

As the rates of COVID continue to decline in our community the Wenatchee School District is actively working with health authorities on plans to safely reopen our schools for in-person instruction. We will continue to communicate with our families the plans and timelines associated with reopening steps.
