When the Wenatchee School District began its Youth Tech Apprenticeship a few years ago, the program was the first of its kind in Washington state. This month, the program’s latest apprentice was awarded his journeyman card for completing his apprenticeship!
Eric Lopez Anaya, a 2024 Wenatchee High School graduate, is currently working in a long-term substitute position in the tech department at Wenatchee High School, but he has been working as an apprentice at WHS since his sophomore year. He completed his mandated 2000 hours of training shortly after graduating in 2024, and hopes to continue working with the WSD.
WSD’s Youth Tech Apprenticeship is administered by the district and allows dedicated students to earn over minimum wage while working alongside Technical Support Specialists and other specialized district technicians for job shadowing and mentorship. If this sounds like an opportunity you may be interested in, stay tuned for more information in the spring when the program takes on new apprentices.
