Congratulations Class of 2015!

Nearly 450 seniors received their diplomas in front of a packed house.

Wenatchee High School celebrated its 111th Commencement at Town Toyota Center Saturday night for the Class of 2015.

Nearly 450 seniors received their diplomas in front of a packed house. Senior class president Andrew Johnson welcomed the crowd.

Other student speakers included Eduardo Ramos. Eduardo entered kindergarten with limited English language skills, and went on to become the Editor-in-Chief of the Apple Leaf newspaper. He pointed out that 46% of the audience spoke Spanish, and he delivered a portion of his speech in Spanish.

Dr. Kory Kalahar, principal of WestSide High School, was the Distinguished Alumnus, an honor also shared by Dr. Kalahar’s father and uncle in previous years. His daughter, Emma was a member of the graduating class.

Jay Young who is retiring after 47 years as a social studies teacher, was the faculty speaker. A special presentation showed photos of Young from 1968 to present.

Francesca Nevil, National Honor Society President, introduced the 14 Valedictorians, and was a student speaker. Nevil told the graduates to hold tight to your personal purpose and identity, and don’t settle for less.

Musical presentations included performances by Alexandra Stroming, Devin McCallister, Marin Ryles, Kyley Miller, Ashley Techavimol, whose piano playing accompanied her powerful vocals, Maddie Atwood, Marnie Rimes, Marin Ryles with Gabe Massey on guitar.

School board members handed out diplomas, and the evening ended with the moving of the tassels, the throwing of caps into the air, and a shower of confetti.

Congratulations to the Class of 2015.
