WestSide Students Hand Carve Canoe with Churchhill Clark, Descendant of Explorer William Clark

Churchill Clark (a descendant of famed explorer William Clark) has been hand-carving a traditional dugout canoe with the help of kids from Westside High School in Wenatchee since last November, and yesterday they launched it into the Columbia River near Pybus Public Market.

Clark came to Wenatchee for the project primarily because of one Westside teacher, Sheena Zacherle, who thought it would be a good hands-on learning project for her students. After that the rest of the community came together to help. The project was completed in a variety of locations including the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center, the Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center and of course Westside High School.
