Tuesday afternoon February 23, both Pioneer Middle School and Wenatchee High School were placed in a lockdown situation. The Wenatchee Police Department received a call of an adult male threatening suicide and that he was in his car in the high school parking lot. However, the person making the call to the police was not from the local area and confused Wenatchee High School with Eastmont High School. At approximately 12:45 the person of interest was found in East Wenatchee and apprehended for mental health evaluation. We chose to lockdown in order to keep our students safe and prevent the potential threat from entering the buildings. To the best of our knowledge the person in question was never on either the Pioneer Middle School or Wenatchee High School campus.
We are thankful to the Wenatchee Police Department for their quick response and assistance with this potentially dangerous situation. We want to also thank the Wenatchee School District Safety and Security Department, building administration, and staff at both buildings for following our safety and security procedures to ensure the protection of our students.
