Jesús Hernández, longtime school board member, announced his resignation from the Wenatchee School District Board of Directors at the school board meeting on March 22. “I accepted a job as CEO with Family Health Centers, serving all of Okanogan County,” Hernández said. While his wife Melissa and son Julian, a junior at Wenatchee High School, will continue living in Wenatchee, Jesús will be commuting and living part time in Okanogan County.
“I just can’t’ stress enough how wonderful and rewarding serving on the school board has been for me,” says Hernández, who has served on the board for eighteen years.
He read his letter of resignation at the board meeting, in which he thanked former board member and “great friend Karen Norlin, and other amazing colleagues who taught me so much by their conduct, wisdom and compassion for children.”
Hernández said accomplishments he is especially proud of are the Family Advocate Program, several community engagement efforts—most recently Wenatchee Learns, the community support that provided for quality facilities and securing land for future needs, the inclusion of the Tech Center into the district, the Mariachi and other music programs, and taking WestSide High to a new level.
His resignation is effective April 26. A reception will be held for Hernández before the April 26 board meeting.
The Board will be selecting a replacement. More information is forthcoming on the application process for anyone interested in the volunteer position.
