WestSide High School Receives Challenged Students Award from Washington State ASCD

WestSide Principal Kory Kalahar

WestSide High School was awarded the Challenged Students Award for 2016 from the Washington State ASCD (formerly Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development). The award recognizes educators who contribute to providing a school where students are challenged academically with a well-balanced curriculum.

“This is incredible news and we are honored and overwhelmed with gratitude to be receiving such an amazing award,” said WestSide principal Kory Kalahar.

In announcing the award, ASCD said that WestSide, an alternative high school, offers a variety of programs and practices for high functioning students or credit deficient students at the same time.

“It wonderful to see Westside High School being recognized for their staff’s unwavering efforts to ensure each student is challenged academically to prepare them for success beyond the classroom,” said Washington State ACSD Past President Dr. Ismael Vivanco. “This is a very well-deserved award that reflects the great work occurring at Westside High School.”

ASCD Board member Kevin Parr said, “WestSide's journey offers inspiration and hope for all educators that through appropriate challenge every student can work to their potential and find success. WestSide staff, students and the community at large should be very proud of their accomplishment.”
