When would the district close?
While the information on the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is changing day-to-day, schools will remain open unless there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a student, staff member or close contact and we are instructed by the Department of Health to close. It is important to provide continued instruction and, for some students, meals unless an infection prevents us from doing so. Most students are healthy and are not at risk for complications from COVID-19. Medically vulnerable and people over 60 are most at risk from COVID-19. Closing schools is not currently recommended by the Washington State Department of Health or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
After school sports, events and programs
After school programs, athletics and group events will continue as scheduled. School facilities will be disinfected before and after school events and in the case of the District Musical in between performances. Staff will also focus efforts on disinfecting “high-touch” areas in common spaces.
Attendance
We understand that each family situation is different and some may have vulnerable family members they want to protect from possible exposure. Your family is the ultimate decision-maker about what steps to take to keep your family safe. Should families choose to keep their students home due to illness or out of concern around this emerging situation, this will be considered an excused absence and all student work will be allowed to be made up.
Continue to Practice Preventative Methods
For your protection and safety, please continue to follow everyday best practices to help prevent and slow the spread of respiratory diseases while at home and at school, including:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- Avoid close contact with people who are coughing/sneezing.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% isopropyl alcohol.
