Curriculum

Guaranteed and Viable Science Curriculum:

To ensure a guaranteed and viable science curriculum across the Wenatchee School District, all teachers teach the same grade level appropriate science standards. Teachers are provided with the district adopted curriculum and a scope and sequence to ensure that science is equitably taught to each student. 

In addition:

  • Science time is scheduled and protected at all levels.
    • Elementary students will receive a minimum of 90 minutes each week (all grades).
    • Middle School students will receive one integrated Science course each year.
    • High School students will take a minimum of three Science courses.
  • District-adopted curriculum is based on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) 
  • Science curriculum is focused on clear district priority standards.
  • Science and Engineering practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas, Cross Cutting Concepts are embedded and taught within the curriculum.
  • Science curriculum is engaging, student centered and rigorous. 

K-5

  • Engineering is Elementary Kits
  • Mystery Science 
  • WSD GLAD and Place-Based Science units

6-8

  • Smithsonian Science  Kit Curriculum 
  • 7th and 8th supported by CTE frameworks

9-12

  • Instructor generated, NGSS based units in the following courses:
    Integrated Physics and Chemistry, Integrated Geology and Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Physics, AP Biology, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, Exercise Science
