Deaf Education

Wenatchee School District's Deaf and Hard of Hearing program provides services for students who qualify in the area of hearing loss or deafness for students identified from Preschool through High School, or age 22, depending on the individual student's needs.

A decision on a student's placement is decided after receiving input from the parents and the academic team during an IEP meeting. Students are placed in an environment that best supports their needs. All factors are taken into consideration - assistive technology, interpreters, and being with their hearing and d/hh peers. If your child uses American Sign Language, Listening and Spoken Language, or a combination, Wenatchee is committed to providing accommodations that work best for your child.

Our philosophy is to work with families and others as a team to assess each student's individual needs and design a program that allows maximum growth and success for the students.

Wenatchee School District is committed to providing social-emotional support in the area of peer social interaction and Deaf adult role model opportunities. This looks like family nights and field trips.

Wenatchee School district is staffed with:

  • M.A. Deaf Ed Certified; EIPA (4.3) Certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Educational Sign Language Interpreters who have met state standards for Washington state, or are currently working on meeting standards.
  • Speech and language Pathologists who have experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
