CREDITS AT WENATCHEE HIGH SCHOOL
Successful completion of any class at WHS will result in a credit earned. Each credit will count in one or more subject areas based on the class's curriculum. Each year students are required to enroll in at least 8 classes. The following is a breakdown of how many credits a student will have earned by the end of each school year, if they have passed all of the classes they were enrolled in.
9th Grade - 8.00 total credits earned
10th grade - 8.00 credits earned = 16 total credits
11th grade - 8.00 credits earned = 24 total credits
12th grade - 8.00 credits earned = 32 total credits
Students need to complete 30 total credits with specific credits earned in different subject areas. Students can fail 2 classes and still be on track to graduate. Once a student fails more than 2 classes, they will need to come up with a plan with their counselor for credit retrieval. If a student fails a core class, like English, Math or Science, they will need to come up with a plan with their counselor to make up for the lost credit.
Student can earn an extra credit within their school day by:
Taking a 0 period class
Sign up for a practicum class (Sports Medicine)
Sign up for work-site learning if they are employed
Take a class at the Tech Center during the summer - can earn 0.50 credit
CREDIT RECOVERY
Students who are unable to successfully complete all their coursework should work with their counselors to develop individualized plans to recover credits and earn their diplomas. Students can do make-up credit courses through our online credit retrieval program after school starting their junior year.
